SAN DIEGO - Even when things looked their bleakest, as
Preethika Venugopal and
Regina von Koch walked to the bench after having their serve broken and falling behind 8-7 with the crucial third doubles point (and all the momentum that comes with it) on the line, the duo did not lose hope or blink in the face of the challenge as they rallied to take to two straight games and win the match 9-8 to propel the Point Loma women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Westmont on Saturday, Mar. 28.
Â
With that win the Sea Lions (7-11) went up 2-1 on the Warriors (9-8) and carried that momentum over to singles where it won four of six matches to earn the victory.
Â
Madeline Cunningham earned a very impressive singles victory at No. 2s where she sweot the No. 40 ranked player in the NAIA, Haley Strandness, 6-0 and 6-1. In fact, all four PLNU singles victories were in straight sets.
Â
Regina von Koch won at No. 3s 6-3 and 6-0, while Jen Weissman reversed her score to win 6-0 and 6-3 at No. 4s.
Kirsty Mountain gave PLNU its sixth point with a 6-3 and 6-1 win at No. 5s.
Â
The Sea Lions have now won two of their last three matches after a tough stretch over Spring Break. Their next match will be Monday, Mar. 30 when they host Lewis-Clark State at 4:00 p.m.
