SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's tennis team started the 2016 season off on the right foot with an 8-1 victory over San Diego Christian in its opener (Jan. 30).
 
Point Loma began the match with singles, and finished the Hawks off right there. Regina von Koch won in the No. 1 position 6-3 and 6-0. Newcomers Nicole Cameratta and Michelle Torres each picked up victories in their Sea Lion debuts as they swept their opponents at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
 
Seniors Jen Weissmann and Kirsty Mountain added straight set victories of their own. Weissmann won 6-0 and 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while Mountain did not lose a game en route to winning at No. 6 singles 6-0 and 6-0.
 
With the match secured for PLNU both teams moved to doubles. Hilary Ramage and Camaratta won at No. 1 doubles 8-4, and Mountain and Torres won at No. 3s 8-1. Weissmann and von Koch closed out the match with an 8-5 win at No. 2s.
 
The Sea Lions' next match will be Thursday, Feb. 4 when it hosts UC San Diego at 2:00 p.m.
