LOS ANGELES - The No. 31 Point Loma women's tennis team lost the rematch against No. 33 Cal State Los Angeles, 6-3, on Saturday, Mar. 12.
Â
These two teams matched up just over a month ago at PLNU and the Sea Lions (5-9) won by the same score. There is a good chance these two teams could see each other for a third time this season in the PacWest Championships as CSULA (5-6) is an affiliate member of the PacWest.
Â
The reversal in results could have been seen coming as all three of the double matches went the opposite way than on Feb. 10. PLNU's lone doubles point came at No. 1 doubles from
Nikki Newell and
Regina von Koch (8-4).
Â
In singles, Newell and
Michelle Torres each won again over their CSULA opponent, but the Golden Eagles found a way to win on four other singles courts for the victory. Newell won at No.1s over Nazomi Matsuoka in straight sets 6-4 and 6-1. Torres used an extra game in each set to grind out a 7-5 and 7-5 win over Pyper Brown.
Â
PLNU will return home to host a pair of games next week. The Sea Lions will welcome in Sonoma State on Tuesday, Mar. 15 at 2:00 p.m., and Hawaii Hilo on Saturday, Mar. 19 at 11:00 a.m.
