COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Point Loma women's tennis team came back with four singles victories to edge Concordia (CA) on the road, 5-4 (Mar. 23).
 
It was the Sea Lions' third straight win and it evened their record at 8-8 on the season. The Eagles fell to 6-8.
 
After picking up their lone point in doubles on court 3 from Michelle Torres and Jen Weissmann in a tightly contested 8-6 match, PLNU trailed 2-1 going to into singles.
 
That same doubles duo came up big for the Sea Lions in singles. Torres set the tone and evened the match at 2-2 with a straight set, 6-3 and 6-0, win on court 6. Nikki Newell and Regina von Koch added points for the Sea Lions with wins at the top two positions. At the same time Concordia won on courts 3 and 5 to tie the match at 4-4 bringing it all down to Jen Weissmann on court 5.
 
The senior from Loveland, Colo., split the first two sets with Samantha Schuster 2-6 and 6-2 bring the whole match down to the decisive third set. Weissmann stepped up as her teammates cheered on with the 6-3 win, and more importantly the Sea Lions the victory.
 
PLNU will be back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 29 against Middlebury.
