The next two weeks
The Point Loma women's basketball team will host five games over the next two weeks to close out their 2016-17 home schedule. This stretch of games, which are part of a six-game homestand for the Sea Lions, will open against Academy of Art on Saturday, Jan 28 at 2 p.m., as PLNU looks to get revenge against the team that knocked them out of the PacWest Tournament last season. Point Loma will then welcome in Notre Dame de Namur (Jan. 30), Chaminade (Feb. 2) and Hawaii Hilo (Feb. 4), before closing out their home schedule with Senior Day against Azusa Pacific on Thursday, Feb. 9. A look at the Sea Lions
Point Loma is 15-3 on the season and in third place in the PacWest standings at 9-2. The Sea Lions have won 10 of their last 11 games, with their only hiccup coming on the road at Azusa Pacific. There are nine games left in the regular season for Point Loma, five at home, and four on the road.

Alex Brunk leads four Sea Lions in double-figures with 14.6 points per game. She is ranked 11th in the PacWest. She is also 12th in rebounding (7.0).
Roya Rustamzada is pacing PLNU and ranked fourth in the PacWest in rebounding with 9.0 boards. She is also averaging 11.7 ppg, is third in the PacWest with eight double-doubles and ranks 13th in assists (3.1).
Anna Viettry is fifth in the PacWest with 3.8 assists per game.
Kassidy Gengenbacher is the Sea Lions' second-leader scorer with 12.6 ppg, despite coming off the bench all year. She would rank fourth in the PacWest in field goal percentage (49.4) if she had nine more baskets. She is fifth in the rankings with a .790 free throw percentage.
Madison West's 37.9 percent 3-point field goal shooting has moved her into second in the PacWest to go along with her 11.2 ppg.
Sydney Tonack just about gave the Sea Lions their fifth double-digit scorer, as she averages 9.9 ppg and 4.3 rebounds.

As a team, Point Loma leads the PacWest and ranks 24th in NCAA Division II by allowing just 57.0 ppg. PLNU has held its opponents to 37.1 percent shooting while forcing 4.83 more turnovers per game and outrebounding their opponents by 3.9. Taking care of the ball has been a strength of this team. PLNU ranks 29th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.11) and 30th in least amount of turnovers per game (13.7).

A look at the Urban Knights
Academy of Art comes into the game right behind Point Loma in the PacWest standings with a conference record of 8-3 (12-7 overall). The Urban Knights have won their last two contests, with victories over Notre Dame de Namur and Fresno Pacific. ARTU is 5-5 on the road this season, and have dropped two of their last three PacWest matches on the road. Point guard Rodericka Ware is leading the team and ranked third in the PacWest with 18.7 ppg. She also is fourth in the PacWest with 4.1 assists. Helping her out is Helena Orts, who nearly averages a double-double with 15.1 points and 8.8 rebounds. She is also second in the PacWest in field goal percentage (54.4). As a team, ARTU is averaging 70.3 ppg and are shooting 39.3 percent from the field. However, their opponents are averaging 71.3 ppg, and are shooting 40.3 percent.

A look at the Argonauts
Notre Dame de Namur is exceeding expectations this year. After being picked to finish last in the preseason coaches' poll, NDNU has started PacWest play at 7-4 (9-9 overall) and are tied for fifth place. Marissa Caballero's 15.1 ppg leads three Argonauts in double-figures. Emily Tevez and Jerusha Paine have powered NDNU down low. Tevez is putting up 14.9 ppg and is average 7.6 rebounds. Paine is scoring 14.4 ppg and hauls down 9.0 boards. As a team, NDNU averages 68.6 ppg and shoots 38.0 percent from the field. They are being outrebounded by six caroms per game.

A look at the Silverswords
Chaminade is 3-14 on the season and 3-10 in the PacWest. The Silverswords have earned conference wins against Fresno Pacific, Holy Names and Hawaii Hilo. Lilia Maio's 13.9 ppg lead four Silverswords averaging in double-figures. She is also the team's rebounding leader with 6.9 boards per game. Other Chaminade student-athletes averaging in double-figures are Kristle Henry (12.1), Destiny Castro (12.1) and Courtney Kaupu (10.4). As a team, Chaminade is ninth in the PacWest in scoring with 65.4 ppg and fifth in field goal percentage (39.7).

A look at the Vulcans
Hawaii Hilo is 4-6 in the PacWest and 4-9 on the season. The Vulcans dropped their last contest on the road at Hawaii Pacific to break a three-game winning streak. The game against PLNU will be the last in a four-game road trip for UHH. This season Hawaii Hilo is 2-1 on the road. Kim Schmelz is leading the team with 14.1 ppg. She is shooting 39.2 percent from the field, and 42.9 percent from 3-point range. Sydney Mercer is also averaging double-figures (11.1 ppg). Asia Smith is the team's leading rebounder with 8.6 boards per game.

A look at the Cougars
Point Loma will be looking to get revenge against Azusa Pacific for snapping their season-high nine-game winning streak back on Jan. 16. This season, APU is 9-10 and tied with NDNU for fifth in the PacWest standings at 7-4. Abigail Goodsell is the team's leading scorer with 15.4 ppg. She shoots 34.5 percent from 3-point range and also averages 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. Gabrielle Kaiser is also in double-figures with 14.7 ppg. As a team, APU is averaging 67.1 ppg and are shooting 38.3 percent from the field.

Next games
After Point Loma closes out its homestand, it will head on the road to complete its regular season schedule. The Sea Lions will head to Hawaii for three matches between Feb. 16-20. PLNU will return to the mainland to close out the season on the road at No. 12 California Baptist.Â
