SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma women's tennis team celebrated moving up five spots in the most recent ITA rankings with a 9-0 win over Western New Mexico on Friday, Feb. 24.

The Sea Lions have now won three straight and are now 6-1 on the season. The loss drops WNMU to 2-4.

The match opened with PLNU sweeping doubles.
Michelle Torres and
Shelby Groeneveld stepped into the No. 1 doubles position and earned an 8-2 win.
Ellie Gamble and
Nicole Camaratta also moved up one spot in doubles, but still cruised to an 8-0 victory.Â
Regina von Koch and
Taylor McGowan added the third doubles point with another 8-2 win.

The Sea Lions were without their No. 1 player in singles,
Nikki Newell, but everyone stepped up at their new positions with a win. This included von Koch besting Newell's sister, Tiffany, at No. 1s 6-0 and 6-1.

Point Loma will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 28 to face the No. 2 team in the country, BYU-Hawaii, at 11 a.m.
