AZUSA, Calif. - No. 21 Azusa Pacific won the rematch on the courts with the No. 19 Point Loma women's tennis team, 7-2, on Saturday, Apr. 1. The Sea Lions are now 12-6 on the season as APU improves to 11-5.
 
This was a rematch of the Feb. 11 match at PLNU in which the Sea Lions closed out the Cougars 5-4 with a win on court 1 by Nikki Newell and Regina von Koch. PLNU won all three doubles matches that day.
 
Today, however, things swung APU's way right from the beginning. The Cougars were able to win on courts 1 and 2 to take a 2-0 lead. Ellie Gamble and Michelle Torres were able to pick up a win for Point Loma at No. 3 doubles, 8-5, to give the Sea Lions a chance heading to singles.
 
Azusa Pacific earned singles wins in straight sets on courts 3 and 5 to go up 4-1, before Taylor McGowan won, 6-4, 6-4, on court 6 to cut the deficit to 4-2. But PLNU could not pull off three straight singles wins and in the end fell to APU, 7-2.
 
Point Loma will play again on Tuesday, Apr. 4 at home against Hawaii Hilo. The match will start at Noon.
