SURPRISE, Ariz. - The No. 19 ranked Point Loma women's tennis team closed out the 2017 season with a 5-2 victory over No. 34 Concordia in the seventh place match of the PacWest Championships on Saturday, Apr. 22. The Sea Lions complete the season at 17-9. Concordia falls to 11-13.
 
Nicole Camaratta contributed to two points for the Sea Lions. She paired with Ellie Gamble to win 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. The duo went 19-4 this season, including 12 of their last 13. Nikki Newell and Regina von Koch added a quick 8-2 win on court 1 to close out their season at 14-11 as a duo. The wins gave Point Loma a 2-1 lead going into singles.
 
Camaratta then picked up her second point of the match with a 6-2, 6-3 sweep on court 5. After a win on court 4 by the Eagles cut the Sea Lions' lead to 3-2, Shelby Groeneveld and Taylor McGowan clinched the match with wins on courts 3 and 6, respectively. Groeneveld won her match 6-3, 7-6 with a 7-3 tiebreaker. She finished her freshman season with a team-leading 20 wins, one ahead of von Koch. Another freshman, McGowan clinched the match for the Sea Lions on court 6 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. She was 17-9 in her first season.
