Box Score AZUSA, Calif. – The Sea Lions headed on the road Saturday to face the nationally-ranked Cougars of Azusa Pacific University. The #23 Cougars and the Sea Lions had matching 2-1 records heading into the day but it would APU who would come away victorious 6-3. APU went 2-1 in doubles and 4-2 in singles to grab the win, despite some fierce opposition from the Sea Lions. Shelby Groeneveld earned a big win over the 32nd ranked player in the country and Ellie Gamble earned a singles win for PLNU as well. 
 
Opening with doubles play, PLNU dropped their matches at the No. 2 and 3 spots but the tandem of Nikki Newell and Carolina Cuevas Bucio earned an 8-6 victory over the Cougars top pair, Petra Ivankovic and Diana Baumgartnere.
 
Point Loma would earn two wins in singles play, both Gamble and Groeneveld won their matches. Ellie Gamble, playing in the No. 4 position, took her match in straight sets 7-5, 7-5. Shelby Groeneveld had the tough task of competing against the 32^nd ranked Diana Baumgartnere and it took a marathon match for her to win. Each player took one set winning 6-3, but the tie breaker set went extra points with Groeneveld winning the set 13-11 to take the match.
