and an update on the other PLNU men's basketball alums playing around the globe

11/7/2019 5:48:00 PM

SAN ANTONIO - The journey of Daulton Hommes' basketball career added another chapter as the 6-8 guard was assigned to the San Antonio Spurs' G League team, the Austin Spurs.

Hommes was the final player cut from the Spurs' NBA team, following the team's last preseason game on Friday, Oct. 18. He appeared in four preseason games for San Antonio after signing an Exhibit 10 contract with them in August.

Hommes was the 2018-19 NABC Division II National Player of the Year. He averaged 21.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a junior while helping lead PLNU to the national championship game. He then declared for the NBA Draft and saw action in four Summer League games with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he averaged 8.8 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

By waiving Hommes, the Spurs have reduced their roster total to the regular-season limit of 15 players on standard deals and two on two-way contracts.

The Austin Spurs will open their 2019-20 season on Friday, Nov. 8 against the defending league champions, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, in Cedar Park, Texas. The game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. PST.

However, Hommes is not the only former PLNU men's basketball player that has continued their playing career upon completing their eligibility at Point Loma. Here is a look at some Sea Lions currently playing overseas:

Preston Beverly (6'7''-F, graduated '19, plays pro in Germany) led Hebeisen White Wings Hanau to a victory over the 12th-ranked Oberhaching (1-4) 78-59 in the German ProB (third division) on Sunday night. He was MVP of the game. Beverly scored 17 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 22 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his first season in pro basketball. Hebeisen White Wings Hanau (3-2) is placed fifth in South group. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Beverly's first year with the team. This season Beverly averages 11.0ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.3apg and 1.4bpg.

Hayden Lescault (6'5''-G, graduated '15, plays in North Macedonia) managed to help KK Rabotnicki AD Skopje to win against the closely-ranked Kumanovo (2-1) 72-70 in the North Macedonian Prva Liga on Saturday night. Lescault scored only 3 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. KK Rabotnicki AD Skopje (3-0) is placed first in the Prva Liga. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. This season Lescault has very high stats. He averages 15.3ppg, 6.0rpg, 6.0apg and 2.7spg. His team is placed third in the Prva Liga. It's Lescault's first year with the team.
