IRVINE, Calif. -- The Sea Lions hosted Hawaii Hilo and Cal State LA on back-to-back days for a tough two day stretch last weekend, Shelby Groeneveld went 4-0 in her matches on the weekend and was named the PacWest Player of the Week as a result. 

Groeneveld has found herself in a new role at Point Loma during the 2019 season as the Sea Lions' No. 1 singles player after playing primarily at No. 3 last season. The junior has handled the new challenge well with a 6-4 record on the season, including a pair of wins over PacWest opponents last week. Groeneveld opened the week with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles with Michelle Torres over Hawai`i Hilo. She then backed that up with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win over the Vulcans' Marina Colvee. Less than 24 hours later, Groeneveld led Point Loma to a crucial 4-3 win over Cal State LA to earn the season sweep. She made it a perfect 6-0 week in sets between singles and doubles as she won 6-2 in doubles, before sweeping Amanda Schneider 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1 singles.

Point Loma heads to Concordia (CA) tomorrow in a rematch after losing their first meeting in San Diego. The match begins at 2 p.m. The Sea Lions have one home match remaining when they host UC San Diego at 3 p.m. on April 8, for Senior Day.
