ANDERSON SELECTED AS PACWEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

1/25/2021 1:29:00 PM

SAN DIEGO - Coming off back-to-back double-doubles which helped lead the No. 19 Point Loma men's basketball team earn two wins over Concordia, Kaden Anderson has been named the PacWest Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 17-23.

The PacWest's Preseason Player of the Year has lived up to the hype so far this year with three double-doubles in as many games to lead the Sea Lions to a 3-0 start to the season. Point Loma has not trailed all season and has won every game by double digits. In Point Loma's two wins over Concordia, Anderson averaged 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. He also had two steals and a block. He made 17-of-24 shots from the field, including going 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.

In the first win against Concordia, Anderson tallied 19 points with five offensive rebounds in just 23 minutes. Anderson made two layups and a 3-pointer to help the Sea Lions race to a 13-0 lead after just two and a half minutes. The following night, Anderson scored 22 points with 13 rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. Click here to see the complete PacWest release

Point Loma has picked up right where it left off after a 10-month hiatus from competition, extending their winning streak to 10 games dating back to February 2020. PLNU Loma has won each of its last six meetings against Concordia after sweeping the conference opener over the weekend. Josh Caston scored 29 off the bench for the Sea Lions, whose offense is averaging 88 points per game for the season. A big part of that offensive success has been due to their .447 shooting percentage from 3-point range while holding opponents to .283 percent.  Brock Mackenzie is the conference leader in 3-pointers made while Myles Franklin and Noah Stapes are a combined 13-for-20 from beyond the arc.

The Sea Lions will be back in action this Friday, Jan. 29 when they host Biola. This will be the first meeting between the teams since Mackenzie hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer in overtime to capture the PacWest Tournament Championship. The game will be streamed for free and is available at PLNUsealions.com/live.
