PLNU Women's Basketball duo
Haylee Saurette and
Allie Carreon were both selected to the All-PacWest Second Team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Â
"I'm so proud of Allie and Haylee on their Second Team honors," Head Coach
Charity Elliott said. "They have both been so consistent and steady for us all year and to see them get this recognition is wonderful to see. These two are both gym rats and I'm so glad their hard work has paid off."
Â
Â
Saurette leads Point Loma in both scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.6 rpg), ranking sixth and seventh in the conference respectively in those categories.
Â
The senior forward scored in double figures in 22 games and recorded eight double-doubles. She shot 46.1% from the field, which ranks sixth in the conference among qualified players.
Â
The 1,000-point career scorer scored a season-high 27 points on Senior Night to close out the regular season.
Â
"Haylee has stepped into a huge leadership role this season and has been so dependable night in and night out," Elliott said.
Â
Â
Carreon, who averages 10.2 points per game, ranks second in the conference with 106 assists and 57 made 3-pointers. She is third among qualified shooters with a .331 3-point % and fourth in the PacWest with 2.0 3-pointers made per game.
Â
The junior guard ranks sixth in the PacWest with a 1.3 assist/turnover ratio, while leading the team in steals (41), the 12th-most in the conference.
Â
She has scored in double figures in 13 games, including a career-high 31 against Simon Fraser on Nov. 25, which earned her PacWest Player of the Week honors.
Â
"Allie is our poised leader on the floor and she worked incredibly hard during the offseason to become who she's been for us this year," Elliott said.
Â
Â
Point Loma (15-13 overall, 13-7 PacWest) earned the fifth seed in this week's PacWest Championships. The Sea Lions have won seven of their last eight games entering the postseason.
Â
"I know they would echo me saying this but all of these awards are actually team awards," Elliott said. "We've had multiple players step up on so many given nights and it has truly taken our entire team to finish the way we did."
Â
PLNU takes on fourth-seeded Biola in the first round of the conference tournament on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. HT / 4:45 p.m. PT.
