(BOZEMAN, Mont.) After four stellar seasons as PLNU Men's Basketball Head Coach,
Matt Logie has accepted the head men's basketball coaching position at NCAA Division I Montana State University, effective immediately.
"I want to wish Coach Logie and his family nothing but the best in their new endeavor and thank him for everything he has done for the PLNU Men's Basketball program during his time here," Athletic Director Ethan Hamilton said. "Matt has put the team in a great position for the next head coach to continue with the incredible success we have had."
In his four years on The Point, including the shortened 2020-21 season, Logie compiled an 82-23 (.781) record and led the Sea Lions to the NCAA West Regional in all four seasons. His teams also won two PacWest regular season championships and two PacWest Tournament titles.
In 2022-23, Logie was named both the PacWest and NABC DII West District Coach of the Year after leading PLNU to a 29-4 overall record.
Logie led the Sea Lions to both the PacWest regular season and tournament titles, as Point Loma became the first team in PacWest history to finish the conference regular season a perfect 20-0.
PLNU earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West Regional for the second time in program history, before reaching the regional championship game which the Sea Lions lost to No. 6 and national semifinalist Cal State San Bernardino, 83-89.
In that game, PLNU fought back from a double-digit deficit to tie the game with under a minute remaining despite being down injured All-West Region and First Team All-PacWest selection
Luke Haupt and having All-American
Kaden Anderson hobbled after suffering an injury just a few minutes into the first half.
Point Loma was ranked No. 4 in both the NABC Coaches Poll and D2SIDA Media Poll entering the postseason, finishing No. 7 in the final D2SIDA Media Poll that was released.
During his first season in charge in 2019-20, Logie's Sea Lions won the PacWest Tournament and earned an automatic berth into the NCAA West Regional, finishing the year 24-6 before the remainder of the season was canceled due to COVID-19.
In the shortened 2020-21 campaign, PLNU went 8-3 after earning an at-large berth into the NCAA West Regional.
Then in 2021-22, the Sea Lions rallied off 11-straight wins to close the regular season and win the PacWest championship, finishing 21-10 after making yet another regional appearance.
Dating back to Jan. 22, 2022, Point Loma has won a PacWest record 31-consecutive PacWest games.
Logie coached a total of 15 All-PacWest selections, which included three-straight PacWest Player of the Year awards for
Kaden Anderson. Under Logie, Anderson also earned All-American honors in each of the past three seasons.
In 12 years as a collegiate head coach, including eight years at NCAA Division III Whitworth University, Logie sports a remarkable 276-58 record (.826).
Logie is the third-straight PLNU Men's Basketball Head Coach to be hired by an NCAA Division I program after tremendous success with the Sea Lions. Bill Carr was hired by the Santa Clara women's team in 2016 before Ryan Looney took over for the Idaho State men in 2019.
At Montana State, Logie will compete in the Big Sky Conference and will take over a program that has made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances after winning consecutive conference tournament titles.
The next Point Loma head coach will inherit a program that has qualified for six-straight NCAA West Regionals, the longest active streak in the region that dates back to before Logie's successful tenure.
