Alexander Leischner made more PLNU history on Friday when he was announced as the PacWest Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

LEISCHNER IS PLNU'S FIRST PACWEST MALE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

6/30/2023 2:30:00 PM

For the first time ever, the PacWest Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year is a Point Loma Sea Lion.

PLNU Men's Tennis' Alexander Leischner earned the distinction, as announced by the conference on Friday afternoon, after putting together a dominant season both on the court and in the classroom.

On the court, Leischner became the first player in program history to be named PacWest Player of the Year, compiling an 18-3 singles record and a 15-5 doubles mark.

Point Loma's No. 1 singles player also made program history this year as PLNU's first ITA DII West Regional singles champion before advancing to the semifinals of the ITA Cup.

The mathematics major also became the team's first-ever Academic All-America® honoree, receiving First Team recognition.

Leischner was announced on Wednesday as the PacWest Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men's tennis. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year honorees in each of the seven male sports that the conference offers then advanced to be considered for this award, which was voted on by PacWest athletic directors.

The award combines excellence both athletically and academically, which Leischner exemplified with both his on-court accomplishments and a perfect 4.0 GPA in the classroom through two years at Point Loma.
