(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Baseball shortstop
Scott Anderson added another All-American award to his resume, this time for his work both on the field and in the classroom.
On Tuesday, Anderson was announced as a College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® First Team selection, a year after earning Third Team honors in 2023. He was joined on the First Team by starting pitcher
Dylan Miller.
Anderson holds a 4.0 GPA in his MBA program after finishing his undergraduate degree in computer science with a 3.71 GPA. Miller posted a 3.95 GPA in PLNU's MBA program after accumulating a 3.58 GPA as an undergrad.
To be considered for the award, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 and reach a minimum participation requirement. The award is voted on by members of the CSC for a combination of academic and athletic achievement.
For his play on the field, the Carlsbad native earned All-American honors from the D2CCA, NCBWA and ABCA after sweeping the West Region Player of the Year awards from the same organizations.
The PacWest Player of the Year and PacWest Male Athlete of the Year led Point Loma (46-13-1 overall) to a third-straight conference championship, a first-ever conference tournament title and a second West Region crown in three years to earn another trip to the NCAA Division II World Series.
In 2024, Anderson batted .392 with an on-base % of .461 and a slugging % of .678 for a 1.139 OPS. He also tallied 89 hits, 53 runs scored, 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 66 RBIs on the year.
Anderson finishes his storied career as PLNU's all-time career leader in hits (299), runs scored (189) and RBIs (172).
He also ranks second in program history in career doubles (54), third in home runs (36) and ninth in batting average (.355).
The shortstop was recognized last week as the PacWest Scholar-Athlete of the Year in baseball and is in contention to be voted as the PacWest Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Miller joined Anderson on the D2CCA All-American Team, earning honorable mention recognition.
The right hander went 12-2 in 2024, pitching 108.0 innings with a 3.33 ERA and 97 strikeouts. His 12 wins are the fourth most by a PLNU pitcher in a single season in program history.
Point Loma's ace became the first Sea Lion to earn All-PacWest honors in four different seasons, and was also named the conference's Co-Pitcher of the Year.
Miller finishes his PLNU career second in program history in wins (31) and strikeouts (299), as well as sixth in innings pitched (324.2).
