SEA LIONS ANNOUNCE SIGNINGS OF STANILAND, WILKINSON

12/8/2025 11:26:00 AM

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Basketball has announced the signing of two student-athletes in its 2026 recruiting class – Kai Staniland and Andri Wilkinson.

"Kai and Andri continue the tradition of excellence in the recruiting that we've established in our time here at PLNU," Head Coach Charity Elliott said. "Both of these young ladies are outstanding individuals and are committed to the team-first mentality and whatever helps the team be successful mindset. We can't wait to welcome them and their families into our community."

Staniland, a 5-foot-7 point guard out of Ventura High School, has been named the Channel League MVP in each of the last two seasons, earning First Team All-CIF honors both times.

"We've been watching Kai for a long time and was the point guard that we had targeted really early," Elliott said. "She is so competitive, driven, talented and has excellent vision on the floor and will be a difference maker from day one.

"Kai is a true point guard who can set up the offense but is also a playmaker who can push in transition and make plays for herself or her teammates. In addition to all her basketball skills, Kai is great fit to the PLNU campus community from the faith perspective and the academic excellence arena. She will thrive in every way here at PLNU and we can't wait to get her on campus."

Wilkinson, a 6-foot-forward from Pinewood High School, where she is a two-time league champion and a 2024 First Team All-CIF selection.

"We are so excited to welcome Andri to the Sea Lion family," Elliott said. "She came to one of our elite camps and just blew us away with her motor, her drive for excellence and her pursuit of the basketball. She was the hardest worker on the floor, and we saw that continue throughout her high school and club teams and we knew we wanted to coach her.

"She is just relentless on the floor and has that same drive to be a great student, person and teammate, which is why she's going to be such a great fit to our culture and program. She comes from one of the best high school programs in the state, so we know she's going to be ready from day one to help us any way that she can."

Staniland and Wilkinson will join a program that has made back-to-back NCAA West Regional appearances, including last year when PLNU won its first ever PacWest regular season and conference tournament titles. The Sea Lions have reached at least the PacWest semifinals in each of the last four seasons and have increased their win total from the previous year during all four of Elliott's seasons as head coach.

Point Loma (6-2 overall, 2-0 PacWest) is currently on a six-game winning streak and returns to the court on Wednesday at Biola. Tip-off in La Mirada is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
