(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Basketball has added five transfers to finalize its roster going into the 2025-26 season, Head Coach
Charity Elliott announced.
Â
Point Loma will welcome Izzy Navarro, Ruby Vlahov, Alyssa Malla, Maddie Morrow and Sheriene Arakat to The Point this fall, as the Sea Lions will look to defend their PacWest championship.
Â
"We are so excited about this entire recruiting class," Elliott said. "These five transfers, combined with our two incoming freshmen, have filled the needs and plugged the holes that were left after losing our tremendous senior class. Combining this group with our solid and talented returners, we believe that we have put together an incredible roster for the 25-26 season."
Â
Navarro is a 5-foot-7 junior guard transfer from Concordia, where she averaged 15.0 points per game during her two seasons at CUI, including 16.6 ppg this past season. She is a two-time All-PacWest performer and was named the PacWest Freshman of the Year in 2023-24.
Â
"Izzy is a homegrown talent and we are thrilled to bring her back to San Diego," Elliott said. "As a multiple all-conference award winner, we know what Izzy can do on the floor. She's a dynamic scorer and facilitator and is ready to step in and help us try to stay atop of the PacWest.
Â
"Izzy is an intense competitor who wants to win and I'm excited to see her with this team. Her intensity is contagious and is going to be a great addition to the locker room as well as on the court."
Â
Â
Vlahov, a Perth, Australia native, played for NCAA Division I Saint Mary's. During her one season with the Gaels, the 6-foot-3 forward played in 31 games and made six starts, averaging 2.7 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 38.5% from 3-point range.
Â
"Ruby comes to us from Australian basketball royalty and is primed and ready to make an immediate impact this season," Elliott said. "After battling through injuries, she is now fully healed and extremely motivated to be back on the court. We are very excited about what Ruby will bring to us on the floor.
Â
"She can play on the block or stretch the floor with her 3-point shooting. She has an infectious, joyful personality and is going to make a huge impact in the locker room and all over the campus. We are thrilled that she is going to be a Sea Lion."
Â
Malla, a 5-foot-5 guard, began her career at NCAA Division I San Jose State for two years before playing most recently at San Jose CC, averaging 8.3 points and 6.8 assists per game this past season.
Â
"We are so excited to welcome Alyssa to The Point," Elliott said. "She brings us excellent experience at the point guard position while also giving us another solid perimeter defensive stopper.
Â
"Her strengths blend so well with our team and her dynamic personality and energy are going to be tremendous assets in the locker room. She is the final piece of the puzzle and we couldn't be more excited."
Â
Â
Maddie Morrow, 5-foot-9 junior guard from Academy of Art, is from Christchurch, New Zealand. Over the past two seasons at ART U, she played in 53 games and made 14 starts, averaging 5.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Â
"Maddie was someone I immediately thought of when Academy of Art dropped athletics," Eliott said. "She always impressed me with her competitive spirit and her talents on the floor, but when I got to know her as a person, I knew she was meant to be at Point Loma.
Â
"She's a perfect fit with the PLNU mission, is a great teammate and will make an immediate impact on the floor. We are so excited to have Maddie joining our Sea Lions family."
Â
Arakat, a 5-foot-7 wing, transfers from Sonoma State, where she played in 60 games and made 38 starts over her two years with the Seawolves. That included 29 starts this past season, when she averaged 5.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Â
"I'm so excited to watch Sheriene do what she does on the floor," Elliott said. "She is a tough competitor and work horse, and the fans are going to love watching her play. She can play multiple positions, battling inside or knocking down 3's or jumpers.
Â
"She is the prime example of a teammate who is willing to do whatever is necessary to help her team win. She's going to thrive in our program as an athlete, and in the classroom she is going to love being a part of the kinesiology master's program."
Â
Point Loma is coming off its first ever PacWest regular season and tournament titles, in a season in which the Sea Lions went an NCAA-era program best 25-6 and made a second straight NCAA West Regional appearance.
Â
"We couldn't be more excited about the basketball talent but even more exciting to me is the quality of the young ladies and their characters and commitment to team basketball," Elliott said of the entire incoming recruiting class. "They are each incredible people from incredible families who are thrilled to be joining the Sea Lions family. The future looks incredibly bright for PLNU Women's Basketball."
