(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Baseball Head Coach
Justin James has been named the ABCA/ATEC NCAA Division II West Regional Coach of the Year, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
James earns the award for the third time in the past five seasons after leading Point Loma to a third West Region championship in that time span.
Following regional titles in 2022 and 2024, James' Sea Lions made a return trip to the NCAA Division II World Series in 2026 after one of its best seasons in program history.
Point Loma has won at least one game in Cary, N.C. in each of those World Series trips.
James previously earned PacWest Coach of the Year honors for the second time after leading PLNU to its fourth conference title in five seasons, as Point Loma became the first PacWest school to claim four conference crowns.
The Sea Lions went on to also win the PacWest Tournament for the second time, becoming the first PacWest program to win multiple conference tournament titles in the four years of its existence.
PLNU finished the 2026 season with a 50-13 overall record, reaching the 50-win mark for the second time in program history.
James has a 274-120-1 (.695) career record as PLNU Baseball Head Coach, having led the Sea Lions to five straight NCAA West Regional appearances and to the NCAA postseason in all six full seasons played.
