The NAIA No. 3-ranked Sea Lions swept past visiting The Master's 9-0 Saturday at the PLNU Tennis Courts in the last home match of the year. Point Loma improved to 17-3, 12-3 in conference action with the win.
The Green and Gold was just 9-9 against Golden State Athletic Conference foes last year but is close to completing an impressive resurgence. Only the Ojai Tournament next week and a conference tilt at Hope International are left in the regular season.
It is possible, provided a good run at nationals, that Rich Hills could notch his 300th win as PLNU's women's head coach. He earned his 296 victory against TMC on Saturday. Hills reached the 300 win milestone with the Sea Lion men two years ago.
Hill's squad pulled out the win despite some of it's stars getting some well-needed rest. The Sea Lions swept through doubles by scores of 8-1, 8-2 and 8-1 and then grabbed each singles point in straight sets. Posting wins were Rachel Owens (6-2, 6-1), Jessica Kwan (6-1, 6-0), Wileen Chiu (6-0, 6-1), Samantha Mohr (6-1, 6-4), Isabella Tumini (6-0, 6-1) and Brooke Foster (6-0, 6-1).
