A quartet of PLNU players scored double-figure points in a 76-57 win over Carroll (MT) Saturday in the Behnken Field House. The NAIA No. 4-ranked Sea Lions upped their season mark to 3-0 and were unbeaten in three contests at the Westminster Fall Classic.
The Saints grabbed a 5-0 lead but PLNU rolled off the next 11 points. The Sea Lions lead reached 13 twice in the first half, including at the break. PLNU's advantage swelled to a game-high 24 points in the second, thanks in part to a 5-for-5 performance off the bench from Julie Walton. Included in that hot-shooting streak were a pair of three-pointers.
The entire PLNU team shot well for the game (57 percent). twelve players saw action Saturday and 10 scored at least two points. Carroll (2-3) averaged 41 percent from the field and made eight threes.
Amanda Franz scored 19 points to lead PLNU. The junior also had game-high six steals. Colleen Planeta posted her second double-double of the year, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 boards. The senior All-American also blocked four shots.
Senior Liah Ector put together a solid statline: 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ector might have boosted her numbers if she didn't foul out.
Only one Saint reached double-digit points: Elly Brursema with 16.
Up next or the Sea Lions is Olivet Nazarene (IL) at 5:30 pm on Saturday, November 21. That game will be the first home tilt of the season for PLNU and is part of the university's Homecoming.
