BOX SCORE
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Sea Lions pulled down 15 fewer offensive rebounds than the Westmont College Warriors in their 20-point loss on Saturday evening in Murchison Gymnasium (50-70).
Things got out of hand fast, as Point Loma trailed by a dozen points after just nine minutes of play. They only seemed to get worse as the Warriors wedged 26 points between themselves and the Sea Lions by the time they had played 16 minutes. When they left the court at halftime, the score was 48-27.
PLNU scored a point more than Westmont in the second half, but it was too late and not enough to lift themselves over the Warriors. WC benefitted tremendously from Loma's 17 turnovers, earning 21 points from them. The lack of the Sea Lions' offensive rebounds hurt them the most, as the Warriors compiled 20 2nd-chance points--the exact figure by which they won the game. Point Loma only scored two.
Crissa Jackson topped the list of Sea Lion scoring with 14. Kaitlyn Trotter was close behind with 13, and both pulled down a combined 10 rebounds, while Andrea Campbell picked up seven boards.
PLNU, which falls to 3-2 overall, 1-1 GSAC, shot 80 percent at the free throw line but only 33 percent from the field.
Westmont's Vanessa Farias led the night with 18 points, while Angel Blanco added 12 and seven rebounds. Lisa Peterson was huge for the Warriors, doing damage with 11 rebounds, eight of which were offensive.
WC shot 76 percent at the line and 36 percent from the field. The Warriors are now 7-1 overall, 1-1 GSAC.
The Sea Lions will travel to Costa Mesa to take on No. 5-ranked Vanguard University on Tuesday, Dec 7 at 5:30 pm.
