The NAIA No. 2-ranked Sea Lions downed La Sierra 16-5 on Thursday to improve to 8-0-1 on the year.
Jack Diamond hit a homer and a trio of players:
Tyler Kuehl,
Sam Ofield and
Caleb Wenzel collected three hits apiece. Kuehl and Wenzel each drove in three runs.
PLNU pounded the shorthanded Golden Eagles for 13 hits, scoring four runs in the first, the third and fifth innings. The Sea Lions also scored one in the third and fourth and twice more in the seventh.
La Sierra (1-7) pushed across two in the bottom of the second, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The lopsided win gave PLNU coach
Joe Schaefer the chance to play his reserves on Thursday, including 15 position players and four pitchers.
Starter
Robby Ross earned the win with a five inning stint in which he allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out five.
Adam Herter,
Josh Dexheimer and KC Katch all threw in relief. The latter two fanned three batters apiece.
Allen Boyer scored three times, as did Kevin Newberg. Wenzel and
Jeff Fox both scored two runs.
The Sea Lions host No. 21-ranked Madonna for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11:00 am.
