NAIA No. 2-ranked PLNU defeated San Diego Christian 1-0 in a seven-inning game at Stars Field Saturday. KC Kartch tossed four shutout innings, Tyler Kuehl hit a solo homer and Chad Blauer picked up the win with a scoreless three-inning effort.

The Sea Lions improved to 14-3-1 overall, 6-1 GSAC with the win. PLNU swept the season series against SDCC (1-10, 1-7) by winning four straight games in four days against the Hawks.

Kartch started for PLNU and surrendered just two hits through four innings before giving way to Blauer in the fifth. Unfortunately for Kartch, SDCC starter Sergio Guzman was dealing as well and kept the Sea Lions off the board through six innings.

PLNU finally broke through in the seventh when Kuehl smashed a one-out solo homerun. The Hawks threatened in the bottom of the seventh when Mike Bando hit a lead off double, the first hit off of Blauer all day. He later moved to third on a sac bunt but Blauer (4-0) fanned David Madrigal for out number two and got a fly out to end the threat and the game.

Guzman was hung with the loss though he gave up just three hits.

The two teams played just seven innings as it was the second game of a regularly scheduled double header that was divided up between two days to avoid the anticipated rain storm.

The Sea Lions host Concordia for a doubleheader on Wednesday that starts at 10:00 am.
