Tyler Hall scored in the 104th minute of Saturday's season finale at Westmont to give Point Loma Nazarene a 2-1 victory and send the Sea Lions into the off-season on a high note.
The win snapped a six-game conference losing streak for PLNU, which ends 2011 with an 8-8-1 overall mark, 2-7 against Golden State Athletic Conference teams. Nonetheless, the Sea Lions will miss out on making the conference postseason tournament.
Westmont fell to 3-12 overall, 2-6-1 GSAC. Even though their overall record suffers in comparison to the Sea Lions', the Warriors just edged PLNU for the final playoff spot of the GSAC tournament.
The Warriors scored the first goal of Saturday's match, in the 59
th minute. PLNU fought back and put in the tying score in minute 72 when
Paul Fuchs put a rebound ball into the Westmont net.
Neither team was able to break the deadlock in regulation, nor in the first 10 minutes of overtime. Finally, in the fourth minute of double overtime, Hall blasted in his fifth goal of the year to give PLNU the win.
Four of Hall's goals this season came against conference opponents.
Loma outshot WC 13-11 overall and 7-5 in shots on goal. Eleven of Point Loma's shots came in the second half of play.
Keith Cline made four saves for the Sea Lions while Andrew Singer had two stops for the Warriors.
