SAN DIEGO – Nyla Bailey scored 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds, leading Point Loma Nazarene to a 69-55 non-conference win over visiting Wayland Baptist Saturday night in front of a packed Golden Gymnasium.

PLNU outshot its Texas opponent by almost 20 percent (49 percent to 30 percent) and outnumbered the Flying Queens in almost every other area.

In front of about 1,500 spectators who were celebrating PLNU's Homecoming, the Sea Lions took the floor and gained possession at tip off. Though Point Loma scored first, the team wouldn't gain the lead again until the 11-minute mark. From there on, though, they would never surrender it again.

With three minutes left in the half, the Sea Lions were beating the Flying Queens by 12 points. After a couple Loma turnovers and fouls, Wayland Baptist was able to slim the lead by three, but PLNU left the hardwood at intermission up 30-21.

The remaining 20 minutes of play would consist of a lot of blocks by Abby Boorman and points from Nyla Bailey.

Bailey, who was 10-for-15 from the field, led the night with 23 points and nine rebounds. Boorman had six blocks.

Surprisingly, Wayland Baptist outrebounded the Sea Lions by six (46-40) and even committed fewer turnovers (13 to 16 from PLNU), but the hot shooting of Point Loma was too much to handle.

The Flying Queens were hurt by their inability to make a shot at the line as they made just 10-of-24 there. The Sea Lions were successful 15-of-22 from the stripe.

Point Loma would send the team home behind by 14 points. Crissa Jackson scored 17 points and dished out five assists while Brianna Colon reached double-digits with 10 points.

Kiley Berlinski contributed seven boards and Andrea Campbell was close behind with six.

Flying Queens' Alex Williams was their top scorer with 13 points.

The Sea Lions are now 4-1 and will host Fort Lewis College Monday Nov. 21 at 7 pm.
