box score

HELENA, Mont. – Point Loma Nazarene scored just 52 points but it was more than enough Wednesday as the Sea Lions claimed a 52-37 non-conference win at Carroll. The win pushes PLNU's record to 5-2 overall.

Carroll (3-2) hit just 29 percent of its field goal attempts, including only 1-of-16 from three-point range, though the Montana squad did out rebound PLNU 36-28.

The Fighting Saints scored the first points of the game and built leads of 6-2 and 10-7, but when the Sea Lions' Brianna Colon drained a 3-pointer at 8:12, PLNU never trailed again.

Point Loma outscored Carroll 10-4 to finish the first half for a 22-14 advantage at the break. After the break, Loma went on a 12-4 run, going up by 18 points, 36-18.

Then the Saints got as close as 11 points but could get no closer as the Sea Lions answered with eight unanswered points for a 19-point cushion and their biggest lead of the night, 48-29.

Point Loma shot 41 percent from the floor led by Nyla Bailey's 16 points and five rebounds. Brianna Colon chipped in with 14 points, three assists, two steals and two boards. Teammate Abby Boorman blocked four shots.

The Saints were led by Amy Allen who canned 10 points. Jeni Guertin had four steals, while Alysha Green passed for six assists.

“We came together and played as a team,” said Bailey. “We are growing closer as a team, building chemistry and learning each other's moves.”

After taking Thanksgiving off, the Sea Lions will be in Butte on Friday to take on Montana Tech with play starting at 7:00 pm.
