POMONA, Calif. -- The NAIA No. 3-ranked Sea Lions had little trouble with NCAA DIII sixth-ranked Pomona Pitzer on Friday, sweeping the Sagehens 9-0. Point Loma Nazarene improved to 10-0 with the non-conference triumph.
PLNU won each match in straight sets and went into singles with a 3-0 lead after three fairly easy wins. Strimple and Litchfield prevailed 8-4 on one with the Sea Lion pairings of Rachel Owens/Jessica Kwan and Kiersten Steinhauer/Wileen Chiu each coming away with 8-5 wins.
Down the ladder in singles: Strimple cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jane Soloman; Litchfield defeated Kara Wang 6-2, 6-3; Kwan knocked over Arthi Padmanabhan 6-0, 6-2; Maika Adair topped Nicole Holsted 6-3, 6-4; Owens edged Samantha Chao 6-4, 7-5 and Chiu was a 6-4, 6-4 victor over Kristin Brikmanis.
The Sagehens fell to 7-1 with the loss.
Point Loma was supposed to take on No. 1 Fresno Pacific on Saturday, but the match has been postponed due to the threat of rain in the Fresno area. The two teams have rescheduled for Wednesday.
