LA MIRADA, Calif. -- Point Loma Nazarene and Biola split a Golden State Athletic Conference twinbill at the Eagles Diamond on Saturday. The Sea Lions won the opener 8-4 before losing by the same score in the nightcap. Loma came back from a 3-0 deficit in game one by scoring eight runs in their final two at-bats.

The Green and Gold now stands at 17-28 overall on the year and are 9-19 against conference opposition. PLNU is sitting in last place in the conference standings and only has four games remaining in the regular season to jump over three teams and claim one of the six spots in the GSAC Postseason Tournament.

Biola jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning of game one, highlighted by a two-run homerun from Drake Fages. PLNU starter Tyler Garkow settled down after giving up three runs on four hits in BU's first at-bat. He and Eagle pitcher Nick Turner put up zeros until the Sea Lions struck for six runs in the top of the eighth. Eight different PLNU batters collected a hit during the outburst.

Catcher Ricky Gingras delivered a two-run single in the ninth to put Loma up 8-3. The Eagles plated one in the home half of the inning but Garkow closed the Eagles out by inducing a fly out on his 129th pitch of the game.

Garkow improved to 4-8 with the complete-game effort while Turner fell to 3-5 after yielding five runs on eight hits.

The Sea Lions pounded out 14 hits, paced by a 3-for-4, three RBI game by Gingras. Tyler Hanzawa, Clinton Harwick and Andy Littlefield added two hits each.

Point Loma was looking for a sweep after scoring two runs in the second inning of the nightcap. But Fages launched another bomb for the Eagles in the third to cut the gap to one run. The BU third baseman hit a home run in each game of the four-game series and has 20 RBIs in 10 games against PLNU in his two seasons with the Eagles.

The Sea Lions got that run back in the third when Harwick doubled and scored on a single by Bryan Burkhead.

Biola pushed five runs across in the fourth however, to take a 6-3 lead. The Sea Lions scored just one more run, that coming in the sixth, with the Eagles plating two in the bottom of the sixth.

Sam Sadler started for Point Loma and lasted 3.1 innings. He fell to 0-1 after allowing five runs on eight hits. Nolan Stouder and Garrett Gooding threw in relief with both pitchers giving up runs.

Biola reliever Kevin Ryan (2-4) won with 4.2 innings of relief of starter Javier Martinez.

PLNU had 10 hits led by Harwick who was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Nordgren and Trey Hunt had two hits apiece.

Biola (21-24, 14-13 GSAC) is third in the conference standings.

The all-time series between Point Loma and BU is 90-73, with PLNU leaving next season for the NCAA.

On Friday, the Sea Lions begin their final ever GSAC series when they host Azusa Pacific for a doubleheader that starts at noon. The NAIA No. 4-ranked Cougars have dominated the GSAC this season. With two more wins Saturday APU's record is 38-8 overall, 25-3 against conference teams.

Besides being the final home contests of the year, the Sea Lions will recognize Associate Head Coach Jack Northam between games. Northam is retiring after four decades of service to the PLNU Baseball Program.
