WHAT'S HAPPENING:
The Point Loma men's basketball team returns home for the first two games of a five-game homestand. The Sea Lions will welcome in Cal State San Marcos for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday (Jan. 23) at 7:00 p.m. PLNU will then return to league play when they play host to Holy Names on Saturday (Jan. 26) at 4:00 p.m.
PLNU HOSTS SUPERFEST:
For the fourth straight year Point Loma will host Supferfest. This year the event will come to campus on Jan. 26th starting at 9:45 a.m. This FREE event is full of clinics, games, prizes, giveaways and includes the chance to watch a PLNU basketball doubleheader. Superfest 2013 will offer families the chance to connect with professional athletes such as Adrian Gonzalez while hearing their secrets of how they play and live like champions.

A LOOK AT THE SEA LIONS:
Point Loma is 3-11 on the season and still looking for its first win in conference play (0-7). The Sea Lions allow just 56.5 points per game to lead the Pacific West Conference in scoring defense, by over seven points a contest. PLNU is also atop the conference rankings in field goal percentage defense (.387) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (.283).
Todd Campbell leads the Sea Lions with 7.5 points per game. The senior from Kenmore, Wash., is also averaging 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
AJ Ussery ranks third in the PacWest with 1.5 blocks per game and 12th in rebounds (5.9). Ussery also leads PLNU with 2.5 assists.
Oivind Lundestad is the Sea Lions' top threat from the outside. He is hitting 35 percent of his shots from behind the arc.
A LOOK AT CAL STATE SAN MARCOS:
The Cougars enter Wednesday's game ranked No. 9 in the NAIA. They are 16-4 on the season and have won their last eight contests. AJ Gasporra returned to the Cal State San Marcos roster following the Christmas break and has led the team in scoring in five of six contests since rejoining the team. He is averaging 20.3 ppg, while shooting 52 percent from long range (16-of-31) and 92 percent at charity stripe (36-of-39). CSUSM also has four other players averaging in double-figures. As a team, the Cougars are averaging 78.9 ppg, while shooting 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from long range.
These teams met Dec. 5th in San Marcos and it was the Cougars earning a 51-46 victory. Danny Redmon scored 24 points to lead Cal State San Marcos on a 10-point second half comeback. An 18-3 run by the Cougars in the second half fueled their comeback. During this run Redmon would score 12 of the 18 points. The 51 points for CSUSM is still a season-low, by 10 points, for the Cougars.
A LOOK AT HOLY NAMES:
The Hawks are 3-14 on the season and 0-8 in the PacWest. They have dropped their last eight contests and are just 1-7 on the road this season. Tyler Fry leads the team with 14.4 ppg and 4.9 rpg. He has connected on 52 3-point buckets this season to rank second in the PacWest with 3.1 treys per game. He leads the league with 2.7 steals. Ian Collins is the only other Hawk averaging in double-figures. He is putting up 12.0 ppg while shooting .546 percent from the field. As a team, HNU averages 61.8 ppg whiel yielding over 77 ppg. They have also struggled on the boards when they are being outrebounded by over 10 boards a game.

The homestand for Point Loma will continue next week when three more PacWest schools from the Bay Area visit PLNU. Academy of Art will come to town on Thursday, Jan. 31 and Dominican on Saturday, Feb. 2. The Sea Lions will close out the homestand against Notre Dame de Namur on Monday, Feb. 4.
