(FRESNO, Calif.) PLNU Men's Basketball Assistant Coach
Daniel Dyck has accepted the head coaching position at NCAA Division II Fresno Pacific University, FPU announced on Friday.
Â
"We are so excited for Coach Dyck and his incredible family," PLNU Head Coach
Justin Downer said. "He has played a huge role on three consecutive PacWest Championships, helping raise the bar at Point Loma. The Dyck family made a huge impact on our campus, and they will always be family to us."
Â
Â
Dyck joined the Point Loma coaching staff ahead of the 2023-24 season after spending five seasons as an assistant coach at Fresno Pacific, leading the Sunbirds to their two most successful seasons in the NCAA, including an NCAA West Regional appearance in 2020-21.
Â
At PLNU, he helped the Sea Lions win the PacWest regular season championship in each of the last three years, while playing an integral role on the first coaching staff in conference history to win back-to-back PacWest regular season and conference tournament titles.
Â
As defensive coordinator and bigs coach, Dyck developed All-PacWest forward
Wynton Brown and PacWest Player of the Year
Andrew Nagy, who also earned First Team All-West Region honors.
Â
Under his leadership defensively, Point Loma became one of the premier defensive teams in NCAA Division II, with the Sea Lions leading the PacWest in defensive rating and scoring defense this past season.
Â
That came after PLNU finished 17th nationally in overall defensive rating and 18th in scoring defense in the country in 2024-25.
During Dyck's time on staff, Point Loma went 77-21 (.786), making consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in each of the past two seasons.
