ST. GEORGE, Utah -
Dylan Wingrove scored in the 80th minute to cap off a seven minute scoring barrage in the Point Loma and Dixie State men's soccer match and propel the Sea Lions to the 2-1 victory.
The match was scoreless until the 73rd minute when the Red Storm (2-9-3, 1-8-2 PacWest) got on the board on Michael Gray's first goal of the season.
The Sea Lions (7-5-3, 5-2-3 PacWest) were not down long however, as they quickly went on the attack and evened the score on an own goal by Dixie State in the 77th minute.
Just 149 seconds later Point Loma would snap the tie with Dylan WIngrove's second goal of the season.
Nico Tagaloa gathered the ball and passed it into the box to an awaiting Wingrove for the game-winning goal. This was the first assist of the season for Tagaloa.
"We are happy to get full points on a tough trip, but we will have to perform better moving forward," said Point Loma head coach
Phil Wolf. "This group needs to continue to improve daily and not be satisfied with mixed performances like today"
After the Sea Lions took the lead
Carter Phillips made it hold open en route to the win. He finished with three saves. His counterpart, Tyler Walters, made one.
PLNU came away with the win despite being outshot by DSC 13-9 and falling behind 1-0.
"At the end of the day, a lot of teams have struggled coming to Dixie State to play, so we are glad to walk away with three points," Wolf concluded.
The Sea Lions next match will be at home when they face Cal State San Marcos in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m.
