No. 21 Tritons top Sea Lions in 11 innings

[Box score]

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Danny Susdorf scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift No. 21 UC San Diego to a 6-5 win over the Point Loma baseball team on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

The Sea Lions (1-5) led 5-3 going into the bottom of the ninth inning before the Tritons (5-2) rallied to tie the game on a wild pitch and bases loaded walk. Susdorf fueled UCSD throughout the game by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI out of his leadoff spot.

Zach Allen reached base four times out of the leadoff spot for PLNU. He went 2-for-3 with a double, stolen base and two walks.

Point Loma had a late comeback of its own to take the lead. Trailing 3-2 going into the top of the eighth PLNU took advantage of two Tritons' errors as Joseph Keller and AJ Derr both cross the plate to give the Sea Lions the 4-3 lead. They would tack on one more in the top of the ninth on a two-out single by Andy Littlefield.

It was a staff game for Point Loma which used eighth pitchers in the game. Sebastian Santos went the first three innings allowing just one run while scattering four hits. Jake James (0-2) was saddled with the loss after walking Susdorf to leadoff the 11th.

Sean Rowan earned the win for UCSD after posting two scoreless frames in extra innings.

Point Loma will begin Pacific West Conference play this weekend when it welcomes in Hawaii Hilo for a four-game set starting on Friday (Feb. 15) at 11:00 a.m.
