ST. GEORGE, Utah
- The Point Loma baseball team pounded out 16 runs on 19 hits to win the opener of the doubleheader over No. 14 Dixie State 16-3 and then in game two Mike Marcoux delivered a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the seventh to lift the Sea Lions to the 3-2 come from behind win on Monday (Mar. 4).

The doubleheader sweep on Monday gave PLNU and Dixie State a series split. The Sea Lions are now 7-8 on the season and 5-3 in the Pacific West Conference. The losses broke an eight-game winning streak for the Red Storm, who are now 9-3 on the season and 2-2 in the PacWest.

Marcoux came up big in both games for the Sea Lions as he returned to the lineup for the second day, and his first back in the leadoff position. He finished the day 5-of-9 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored and four RBI.

Game 1
The Sea Lions' top four hitters in the lineup combined to go 11-for-21 with nine runs scored and 11 runs batted in, and Justin Lawrence tossed seven strong innings to lead PLNU to a 16-3 win in the opener.

Zach Allen was moved from leadoff to the third spot in the lineup prior to the game and responded with a three-hit, four-RBI performance. Marcoux was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Marcus Heiner also knocked in three runs and crossed the plate twice, while Trey Hunt was 3-for-6 with two runs knocked in of his own.

The Sea Lions were down 2-1 after the second inning but scored three in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead. They would break the game open with a seven-run ninth inning.

Lawrence (2-1) earned the win by throwing seven innings of three-run baseball. He allowed just five hits and walked five while striking out seven. Sam Sadler deliver two scoreless innings to finish off the game.

Game 2
Mike Marcoux tripled in two runs with two outs in the top of the seventh inning off Dixie State's closer to lead PLNU to a 3-2 come from behind victory.

The Sea Lions trailed 2-1 entering the final inning of play. After Tanner Handa reached on a fielder's choice to make it two out, Andy Littlefield came through with a pinch hit single through the right side of the infield to keep the inning alive and put the go-ahead run on base. Coach Joe Schaefer then pinch ran for Handa and Littlefield, bringing Marcoux to the plate with the chance for a single to tie the game or an extra base hit to take the lead. On the first pitch he saw he squared up the ball and drove it into the right center field gap as pinch runner Eddie Roberts raced home from first base with the eventual game-winning run.

PLNU had never led in the game. It fell behind 2-0 as DSC put up single runs in the fourth and the fifth. Point Loma would cut that lead in half with a run in the sixth when Trey Hunt singled in Marcoux.

After taking the lead coach Schaefer would summon Garret Levsen out of the pen to close the game. Levsen came through with a perfect seventh inning to earn his second save of the season. PLNU got quality starting pitching from Sebastian Santos to make the comeback possible. Santos (2-0) held the Red Storm to two runs and eight hits over six innings to earn the win.

Point Loma was outhit in the contest 8-6. Marcoux's two hits led PLNU which had just three hits entering their last at-bat. No member of the Red Storm had two hits.

Kort Christoffersen, who earned a save in game one of the series, took the loss after yielding two runs and three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
