[Game 1 box score] [Game 2 box score]

OAKLAND - For the second time in as many weeks the Point Loma baseball team swept a Pacific West Conference opponent in a four-game series. Today (Apr. 20) the Sea Lions completed their sweep of Holy Names with an 8-6 win in 14 innings in game one and an 8-4 win in game two.

These were the eighth straight wins for PLNU (25-20, 21-11 PacWest) which secured at least a .500 record on the season. Holy Names is now 12-30 on the season and 9-21 in the PacWest.

Game 1
Mike Marcoux doubled in two runs in the top of the 14th and the Sea Lions held on for an 8-6 win in the opener. Trey Hunt led Point Loma's offense, which has scored eight or more runs in four straight games, with a career-high four hits and four RBI.

Hunt helped the Sea Lions build a 6-2 lead after the top of the fifth. Hunt tied up the game at 2-2 with a two-run, bases loaded single in the third. He would add a two-run double in the fifth on a double to left and then came in to score later in the inning along with Bryan Burkhead on a single by Lucas DiCiccio as PLNU built a four-run lead.

HNU would chip away with single runs in the fifth and the seventh, and then pinch hitter Brian Glynn sent the game to extra innings with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth off Sea Lions' closer Garret Levsen.

Chad Etchison (3-2) would take over on the mound for Levsen in the 10th and would allow just one base runner over five innings of work in the extra frames to pick up his third win of the season. He struck out three.

Point Loma starter Justin Lawrence had a solid performance. He went 5.2 innings allowing three runs and six hits while striking out seven before leaving the game with the lead.

Ben Gamba had three hits to lead the Hawks. Max Eggleston relieved Ricky Torres during the fifth inning and pitching 7.2 innings of scoreless innings to keep HNU in the contest.

Game 2
Mickey Dunleavy threw a complete game and Joseph Keller and Tanner Handa each drove in two runs as Point Loma won the series finale 8-4.

Dunleavy (5-5) allowed eight hits and four runs (two earned) as he tossed the second complete game of his Point Loma career. He walked four and struck out four.

PLNU scored two in the first inning on RBIs by Tyler Nordgren and Keller to give Dunleavy the early lead. The Sea Lions would tack on three more runs in the third as the Hawks hit Keller by a pitch with the bases loaded then balked in another. Lucas DiCiccio would cap off the scoring in the inning with a sacrifice fly to score Hunt.

Dunleavy would run into some trouble in the fourth as HNU would rally for three runs to cut the Sea Lions' lead to 5-3.

Handa would give Point Loma two insurance runs in the next half of the inning on a single to left which plated Keller and DiCiccio. PLNU would increase its lead to 8-3 in the sixth on Bryan Burkhead's team-leading 22nd RBI of the season.
