SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma baseball team had its eight-game winning streak snapped in a 12-4 loss to San Diego Christian in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Apr. 23.

The Sea Lions now fall back to 25-21 on the season while SDC improves to 32-16.

Gilbert Vieras and Jeff Lusardi each drove in four runs to lead the Hawks to the win. Cade Gotta and Taylor Eichhorst added three runs scored apiece. SDC scored its 12 runs on only 10 hits and outhit the Sea Lions 10-5.

Lusardi's first two RBI came on a bases loaded single in the fourth inning to put the Hawks in front 2-0. He would another in the sixth as SDC scored two more. San Diego Christian would put the game away with an eight-run seventh inning in which they sent 10 batters to the plate. Viera had the big hit of the inning as he capped off the rally with a bases loaded double to plate three runners.

PLNU had just two hits and one run going into the ninth inning. The Sea Lions scored three runs and were still looking for more as they had the bases loaded and just one out. However, SDC went to its reliever David Johnson who recorded the final two outs to end the Sea Lions' rally.

Point Loma was coming off its four-game series sweep on the road of Holy Names on Saturday. The Sea Lions were short on arms and staffed the game. Brett Carlile made just his second start of the season and went four innings while being charged with three hits and two runs while striking out four. He was saddled with the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season as PLNU never tied up the game after SDC took the lead.

The Hawks also staffed the game. Starter Jesse Hernandez (2-2) picked up his second win of the season after allowing no hits and no runs in three innings pitched.

PLNU will be off this weekend before picking back up with Pacific West Conference play at home on Thursday, May 2 at 3:00 p.m. against Cal Baptist.
