SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma baseball team split a four-game series with Academy of Art on its first Pacific West Conference road trip to the Bay Area. The series finished with the Sea Lions and Urban Knights splitting a doubleheader on Saturday. AAU won game one 3-1 and PLNU took game two 9-0.
With the split PLNU now stands 17-19 on the season and at 13-11 in the PacWest. AAU is now 4-27 and 3-19 in conference.
Game 1
Academy of Art scored three runs in the bottom of the first and three Urban Knight pitchers combined to hold Point Loma to eight hits and one run as AAU picked up a 3-1 win in game one.
After the Sea Lions recorded the first out of the inning the Urban Knights had four straight hits and then an RBI-groundout to take the early 3-0 lead.
PLNU threatened on multiple occasions but managed only one run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by
Kyle Desimone.
Bryan Burkhead and
Trey Hunt each collected two hits for PLNU.
Sam Sadler (1-2) took the loss. He went six innings allowing three runs and six hits.
Nicholas Boyett (2-6) picked up the win for AAU after allowing just one run and seven hits in six innings. Ryan Donahoe earned the save with 1.2 innings of scoreless ball.
Game 2
Joe Keller drove in four runs and
Mickey Dunleavy and
Garret Levsen combined to shutout AAU 9-0 to help the Sea Lions manage a series split.
Keller was one of four Sea Lions to collected two hits in the game. He was 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBI. Hunt,
Bryan Burkhead and
Mike Marcoux each crossed the plate twice. Hunt and Desimone drove home two runs apiece.
Mickey Dunleavy (3-4) earned the win after yielding just two hits over five shutout innings. Garrett Levsen closed out the game with two scoreless innings while striking out two.
Keller helped PLNU jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as he followed Hunt's RBI-single with a three-run homer. Point Loma would tack on insurance runs with two runs in both the third and the fourth innings and another in the sixth.
Kai Fink (0-1) took the loss after giving up six hits and six runs in three innings.
