SAN DIEGO--Trailing after doubles play, the Point Loma women's tennis team rallied on the singles courts to take a 6-3 win over Academy of Art on Saturday afternoon at PLNU.

The Sea Lions gave the Urban Knights their second loss of the day, but only their fifth setback of the season. Academy of Art, who fell to No. 19 nationally ranked UC San Diego on Saturday morning, dropped to 15-5 on the year. With the win over their Pacific West Conference foe, Point Loma improved to 8-13 in 2013.

The visitors took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with Point Loma's only win coming on court two where Hope Penner and Preethika Venugopal took an 8-6 victory over Michelle Dandik Zaale and Amal Ben El Hadj.

But the match turned the Sea Lions way on five of the six singles courts. Maika Adair waged the longest war with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 win over Nina Gajdosikova, while four of her teammates won in straight sets--Sharon Reibstein at #3 (6-0, 6-2), Wileen Chui at #4 (7-6, 6-3), Venugopal on court five (6-0, 7-6) and Kirsty Mountain at six (6-1, 6-3).

Point Loma has just two matches remaining in the regular season before traveling to Hawaii for the Pacific West Conference Championships April 18-20. Next up is a Wednesday (2:30) match at UC San Diego.
