Point Loma falls to crosstown rival UCSD

Box Score [Box score]

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's soccer team fell 3-0 at UC San Diego on Saturday, Sept. 7.

The Tritons (2-0-0) grabbed the early lead on Tsuk Haroush's goal in the 12th minute of the match. The Sea Lions then settled in nicely and kept the ball out of the net for the next 49 minutes.

It would be an own-goal by PLNU (0-2-0) which would break the match's scoring draught and put the Tritons up 2-0 with 30 minutes to play. They would tack on one more goal in the 70th minute and hold on for the 3-0 victory.

"It was a poor performance (by us) overall," said PLNU head coach Phil Wolf. "We just never got it going and then that own-goal sort of deflated us."

Freshman Nico Tagaloa led Point Loma with three shots. The Sea Lions also got two shots apiece from Daniel ten Bosch and Griffin Fuller. Carter Phillips also added five saves for PLNU.

"We just have to try and get better each day," Wolf explained. "There is tons of learning going on, especially in game situations, and we just have to continue to work together and grow as a team.

"We are a little short on confidence right now and we just have to try to build that back up, while keeping the big picture in mind," added Wolf.

The Sea Lions will now return home to face Southern Nazarene their home opener on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
