THIS WEEK:
The Point Loma men's basketball team is in for a challenge when long-time rival Azusa Pacific comes to Golden Gymnasium for a Pacific West Conference battle on Friday (Jan. 17) at 7:30 p.m. The Sea Lions are 10-5 on the season and tied for seventh place in the PacWest at 5-4. APU is 8-5 on the year and is tied for fifth in the PacWest standings with BYU-Hawaii.
GREEN SEA FANS UNITE:
The Green Sea, which is the student cheering section at all home events, has made this contest one of their featured games of the season. Members of the Green Sea will unite on Friday night to cheer on the PLNU basketball squads in their prime seating at Golden Gymnasium. Students will have the opportunity to purchase the #BEATAPU t-shirt ($2) and become a member of the Green Sea at game on Friday. There will also be a dance for all students after the basketball games.

A LOOK AT THE SEA LIONS:
PLNU went 2-1 on its road trip to Hawaii to improve to 10-5 this season and to move into a tie with Dominican (CA) for seventh place in the PacWest standings at 5-4. The four conference losses for Point Loma have come by a combined 13 points. The Sea Lions have played outstanding at home this season where they are 5-0. They are averaging 83.0 ppg at home compared to 66.2 ppg on the road.
Hayden Lescault leads PLNU and ranks fourth in the PacWest with 17.6 ppg. He also ranks fourth in the conference in steals (1.8), ninth assists (3.9) and third in minutes (34.7) while leading the team in each category. He is shooting .514 percent from the field and .773 percent from the free throw line.
Junior Morgan has provided PLNU with a solid presence in the paint. He is averaging 13.9 ppg (16th PacWest) and 6.3 rebounds (13th). He is also ranked eighth in the PacWest in shooting percentage at .574. Point guard
Marek Klassen ranks 17th in the PacWest in scoring (13.3), 10th in assists (3.7) and fifth in 3-point baskets per game (2.4).
Point Loma leads the PacWest in scoring defense, allowing just 68.5 ppg. Their opponents are shooting just .417 percent from the field and .331 from 3-point range to rank third and fourth in the PacWest, respectively. On offense PLNU is leading the conference with a .500 field goal percentage, and ranks third in assists (14.2) and fifth in 3-pionters made (6.7).
A LOOK AT THE COUGARS:
Azusa Pacific is 8-5 on the season and tied for fifth place in the PacWest at 4-3. The Cougars have won five of their last six games with their only loss coming on the road at Dixie State. Troy Leaf is pacing the conference with 19.6 points per game. Tyler Monroe is averaging 12.5 ppg and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds. Robert Sandoval gives APU its third double-figure scorer with 11.0 ppg. As a team, Azusa Pacific is averaging 73.5 ppg and allowing 71.2. It is shooting .467 percent from the field and .709 percent from the free throw line.
LESCAULT NAMED PACWEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK:

Hayden Lescault has been named the Hawai'i Tourism Authority Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 6-12.
Lescault led Point Loma to a pair of wins on the road in Hawaii last week. He averaged 20.7 points, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He scored a season-high 31 points against Hawai'i-Hilo, and contributed 23 points and eight assists against Hawai'i Pacific. In his last five games, Lescault is averaging 20.0 points per game to lead the Sea Lions to a 4-1 record. He has done some excellent work from the charity stripe during that span, making 12 free throws in two separate games.
PLNU HOSTS SUPERFEST - JAN. 25:
For the fifth straight year Point Loma will team with The Rock church to host Superfest on Jan. 25 at 9:00 a.m. This FREE event is full of clinics, games, prizes, giveaways and includes the chance to watch a PLNU basketball doubleheader! Point Loma will play a pair of PacWest games next week; one on the road at Cal Baptist and one at home against Dixie State. The Sea Lions will open the week on Monday, Jan. 20 at Cal Baptist (7:30 p.m.). They will then return home to host Dixie State on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 4:00 p.m.
