Box Score SAN DIEGO - The baseball game between Point Loma and San Diego Christian was suspended in the bottom of the 13th inning due to darkness with the score tied at 5-5. The game will be completed on Apr. 1 when San Diego Christian returns to PLNU for another game which is scheduled for first pitch at 3:00 p.m.
PLNU was fortunate just to get the game to extra innings as they rallied to tie the game with two runs in the eighth in RBI singles by
Joseph Keller and
Clinton Harwick.
The Sea Lions led 3-2 going into the top of the eighth on a three-run homer by
Tyler Nordgren in the fifth inning, but SDCC took the lead with a three-run inning of their own the eighth as they had four hits and benefitted from a PLNU error.
Point Loma starter
Kevin Lillicrop was very impressive in his home debut. He pitched the first six innings allowing just six hits and two runs while striking out seven. He started his PLNU career by striking out the side in the first.
After pulling Lillicrop from the contest the Sea Lions received seven strong innings from their bullpen including
Brett Carlile who threw the final 5.2 innings giving up just three hits and an unearned run and while striking out five and walking no one. He was still on the mound when the game was suspended.
SDCC used three pitchers on the afternoon. David Johnson started the game and threw the first five innings. He was relieved by Codi Scanlon, who went the next four innings before giving way to Steven Bunnell for the final three.
Nordgren was 3-for-5 with a home runs and three RBI to lead PLNU.
Clinton Harwick,
Kellen Sheppard and
Ryan Garcia each collected two hits for the Sea Lions. Chad Erickson had three hits, including a double, to pace the Hawks.
PLNU did have some opportunities to win the game but could not get that winning run across the plate. The Sea Lions outhit the Hawks 17-11 but left 14 runners on base compared to eight for SDCC.
