NCAA WEST REGIONAL:
The Sea Lions are going to the Big Dance! PLNU picked up the No. 6 seed as an at-large bid out of the PacWest Conference to earn its spot into the NCAA West Regional. The Sea Lions drew the No. 1 seed in the West and the No. 11 team in the country, Cal Poly Pomona, as their first round opponent. PLNU will face CPP on Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m.
TICKETS AND STADIUM INFORMATION:
Tickets will be available to purchase on a game-by-game and tournament biases. Tickets are $8 for adult general admission per game and $5 for students/youths and seniors. All-tournament passes are available for $25 for general admission and $15 for students/youths and seniors. All games will be played at Mt. San Antonio College's Mazmanian Field located at 21644 W. Temple Ave., Walnut, CA 91789. Parking is $3 per day.

REGIONAL REPORT:
Cal Poly Pomona (39-14, 28-12 CCAA) earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA West Region after winning the California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season and postseason titles. Azusa Pacific (32-18, 19-13 PacWest) picked up the No. 2 seed followed by fellow PacWest members California Baptist (30-20, 22-10 PacWest) and Dixie State (31-17, 24-8 PacWest) at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Dixie State was the PacWest's regular season champion. UC San Diego (33-19, 27-13 CCAA) of the CCAA earned the No. 5 seed, and PLNU (33-16, 19-13 PacWest) rounded out the field as the No. 6. THREE SEA LIONS EARN ALL-PACWEST HONORS:
Anthony Torres earned second team All-PacWest honors as a catcher, while
AJ Derr and
Ryan Garcia picked up third team honors as an outfielder and a first baseman, respectively. Torres hit .269 this season and was fourth in the PacWest with 13 stolen bases. He also held opponents to just a .483 success rate on their stolen base attempts. Derr led PLNU and ranked 11th in the PacWest with a .350 batting average and sixth with a .442 on-base percentage. He also tied for the team lead 35 runs scored. Garcia ranked second in the PacWest with 21 doubles and was eighth with a .526 slugging percentage. He paced PLNU with 35 runs batted in and tied with Derr for the team lead in runs scored (35).
HUNTLEY NOMINATED FOR NCAA DII PITCHER OF THE YEAR:
Coleman Huntley III has made quite an impact in his first season in the Green & Gold. He has helped lock down the backend of the bullpen, allowing each of the other members of the Sea Lions' staff to slot into place. He has also accumulated the numbers to go along with that as he ranks amongst the top relievers in all of Division II. He leads NCAA Division II with 13 saves, while posting a 2-2 record with a 2.25 earned run average. He has allowed just 20 hits over 24 innings while striking out 30, and has combined on three shutouts. For his success on the mound this season Huntley was nominated for the Brett Tomko Award as the top pitcher in Division II. The winner will be announced on June 1 prior to the NCAA Division II Championships in Cary, N.C.
A LOOK AT POINT LOMA:
The Sea Lions are 33-16 on the season and finished tied for third place in the PacWest standings with a 19-13 record. PLNU has gone 15-7 away from the friendly confines of Carroll B. Land Stadium and 5-1 against CCAA opponents. Point Loma has faced all the teams in the NCAA West Regional, with the exception of its first round opponent, Cal Poly Pomona.
AJ Derr,
Devin Carter and
Ryan Garcia are all hitting over .300 to pace Point Loma.
AJ Derr is leading the team in batting average (.350) and on-base (.442); however, he has not played the last two series. He is tied for 11th in the PacWest in batting average and sixth in on-base percentage. Sophomore first baseman
Ryan Garcia is hitting .314 and he ranked second in the league and 17th in the country with 21 doubles. Garcia also ranks eighth in the PacWest with a .526 slugging percentage. He leads Point Loma and ranks 11th in the conference with 35 runs batted in.
Devin Carter is the team's leading home run hitter with six on the season. He is hitting .310 this season with 32 RBI and 30 runs scored. He is tied for seventh in the conference in homers, and third in stolen bases with 14. Leadoff hitter
Tyler Baker is hitting .277 with a .374 on-base percentage. He has 10 extra base hits and 12 stolen bases.
The bullpen has been the strength of the PLNU pitching staff this season.
Coleman Huntley III has been one of best, if not the top, closer in NCAA Division II this year. He leads all of NCAA Division II with 13 saves. The transfer from Saddleback CC is 2-2 this season with a 2.25 ERA. He has allowed just 21 hits over 24 innings while striking out 30. He has also combined on three shutouts. Setup man
Mickey Dunleavy is 4-0 this season with a 2.13 ERA after allowing just 21 hits in 25.1 innings pitched.
Trevor Abshire's 3.28 ERA leads the PLNU starting staff of
Eric Pierce (3.50),
Kellen Sheppard (3.35) and
Kevin Lillicrop (5.14). As a staff, PLNU ranks second in the PacWest and 33rd in NCAA Division II with a 3.65 ERA, a 2.4 strikeout-to-walk ratio and a 1.39 WHIP.
A LOOK AT CAL POLY POMONA:
The Broncos won the CCAA regular season title by one game over both Cal State Monterey Bay and UC San Diego with a 28-12 record in conference play. They finished the year 39-14, including going 8-2 against PacWest opponents, and have won seven of their last eight games. CPP leads the CCAA with a .289 batting average and ranks second with a 2.72 team ERA.
Catcher Christian Kelley leads SPP with a .351 batting average. Kyle Garlick provides the power for Cal Poly Pomona. He has 14 home runs on the season and has driven in 45 runs. He also added a team-leading 13 doubles and two triples. He slugged .632 on the season with a .438 on-base percentage.
The top of the Broncos' rotation is led by two of the top pitchers in the CCAA, Ryan Olson and Cody Ponce. Olson had a 1.54 ERA this season while going 10-0 with 73 strikeouts in 70.1 innings. Opponents hit just .182 off him. Ponce was 5-2 with a 1.55 ERA. Chris Powell also provides CPP with another quality arm. He was 7-2 this season with a 2.10 ERA and took part in four shutouts.
