This weekThe Point Loma baseball team will host Eastern New Mexico in its first four-game series of the season. The Sea Lions will welcome in the Greyhounds on Thursday, Feb. 18 for single nine-inning games on Thursday and Friday, and a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 20. The single nine-inning games will start at 2:00 p.m., and the doubleheader will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Fiesta Fridays returnFor the second consecutive year, Point Loma will be holding a Fiesta Friday celebration at all its Friday games. This season the Sea Lions have teamed up with Miguel's Cocina to provide chips, salsa and their famous white sauce at every Fiesta Friday. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
A look at the Sea LionsThe Point Loma baseball team swept Cal State LA last weekend, winning two at PLNU before going to Los Angeles to win a doubleheader to complete the sweep. The pitching was excellent for PLNU in the series. The Sea Lions' staff went 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA and three saves. Both
Eric Pierce and
Kellen Sheppard combined with the bullpen to throw shutouts in the first two games of the season. Point Loma has a staff ERA of 1.81 through seven games.
Ryan Garcia had a huge series for PLNU at the plate. He crushed three home runs, had eight RBI and scored five runs. He also hit three-run homers late in both games at CSULA to help Point Loma come away with the victories.
AJ Derr is leading the Sea Lions with a .455 batting average and a .571 slugging percentage. He has already walked six times this season and struck out only twice.
Devin Carter is also hitting over .400 with a .407 average. He leads PLNU in hits (11) and stolen bases (four). As a team, PLNU is hitting .257 with a .317 on-base percentage.
A look at the GreyhoundsEastern New Mexico is 5-1 this season and 3-1 on the road. The Greyhounds are hitting .363 with a .432 on-base percentage as a team. ENMU has hit five home runs in six games and are averaging 11.0 runs per game. Daniel Ward is hitting .500 with four home runs and 11 RBI. He has also scored 11 runs and stole two bases. Jerrott Gray leads the pitching staff with 2-0 record and a 0.00 ERA. He has allowed 12 hits in 13 innings this season, while striking out 12, and has been a part of two shutouts.
Huntley named preseason All-AmericanPoint Loma's
Coleman Huntley III was named the closer on the Hero Sports preseason All-American team. He is the first to ever earn this honor. Nicknamed the "Polar Express," Huntley paced NCAA Division II during the regular season with 13 saves. As a junior he struck out 30 batters in 25 innings, and ended the year with a 2-2 record and a 2.52 ERA.
PLNU places two on PacWest preseason teamAJ Derr and
Coleman Huntley III were both named to the PacWest preseason team.
AJ Derr, a senior from Turlock, Calif. (Pitman HS), earned third team All-PacWest honors last season as an outfielder after leading PLNU with a .340 batting average and a .434 on-base percentage. He had 19 RBI and scored 36 runs. He also added nine stolen bases.
Coleman Huntley III paced NCAA Division II in the regular season with 13 saves and was named to the Daktronics All-West Region team.
PLNU picked fourth in PacWestThe Point Loma baseball team was picked to finish fourth in the PacWest Conference standings, according to the preseason coaches' poll. PLNU is coming off a 33-18 season in 2015, in which they set the school record with a 17-game winning streak and qualified for the NCAA West Regional. The Sea Lions earned 66 points in the poll. They were three ahead of Fresno Pacific (63) for fourth place, and 12 back of Azusa Pacific (78) for third. California Baptist and Dixie State tied for first in the poll with 88 points apiece. CBU received six of the 10 first-place votes from the league's coaches.
