SAN DIEGO - Point Loma Nazarene University's Carroll B. Land Stadium received recent upgrades to its scoreboard and ballpark entertainment. After a December storm knocked over the Sea Lions' third edition of the scoreboard, Point Loma Athletic Director
Ethan Hamilton partnered with Daktronics to construct the new board.
Â
In addition to the basic scoring functions, the new system also comes with an LED video board and more advertising space.Â
Land with current PLNU head coach Joe Schaefer"We are very excited with the final product," said
Ethan Hamilton. "It is an upgrade over a board that severely needed to be replaced."
Â
This was also the first time Point Loma and Daktronics have paired up on a project.
Â
"We are thankful for our growing relationship with Daktronics" said Hamilton. "We truly believe that this will help make our operation even more professional and efficient."
Â
The project was funded by the university and through private donations. The Sea Lions seem to be enjoying it this season as well, as they have posted an 8-0 record at home since the scoreboard was installed.
Â
"We have benefited dramatically across the years in the recognition of the baseball park when Baseball America dubbed it 'America's Most Scenic Ballpark' back on March 23, 1993," said former PLNU head baseball coach and Athletic Director Dr. Carroll Land. "Before that it was not uncommon to hear, 'what a pristine playing field.' Recent improvements of the infield surface, the décor and now the upgraded scoreboard will render renewed excitement for the Field of Dreams nestled within a long-iron shot of the great Pacific Ocean."
