PLNU hosts Hawks in 4-game series starting Friday

This week
The Sea Lions will host Holy Names in its second-to-last homestand of the 2016 season. The teams will play doubleheaders on both Friday (Apr. 29) and Saturday (Apr. 30) beginning at noon.

Final Fiesta Friday of 2016
For the second consecutive year, Point Loma baseball fans have enjoyed the hospitality of Miguel's Cocina as part of Fiesta Friday. Miguel's Cocina has generously provided chips, salsa and their famous white sauce every Friday but this will be their last of 2016.
 
A look at the Sea Lions
The Point Loma baseball team is 24-16 this season and in seventh place in the PacWest standings with a 13-13 mark. The Sea Lions lost three of four games last week against PacWest-leader California Baptist, including the game at Angels Stadium.
 
The pitching staff continues to be the backbone of the 2016 PLNU baseball team. The Sea Lions rank in the top 15 in NCAA Division II in numerous categories, including ranking second in the nation with just 2.03 walks allowed per nine innings. Point Loma is also ninth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.26), 11th in WHIP (1.23) and 13th in earned run average (3.28). Kellen Sheppard is ranked fourth in the PacWest with a 2.59 era. Kevin Lillicrop is sixth with a 2.87 era. The bullpen has also been solid with John Shurance leading the group with a 1.04 era.
 
On offense, Ryan Garcia is having one of the best seasons in Point Loma history. He is quickly climbing up in the single-season record books, and is even making his way onto some career lists. This year he is hitting .349 with 12 home runs and 50 runs batted in. He also has a .436 on-base percentage. He continues to lead the league in RBI and ranks third in home runs. Matt Jervis is also nationally ranked, coming in at sixth inn sacrifice bunts.
 
A look at the Hawks
Holy Names is 10-32 on the season and 7-21 in the PacWest. Dusty Zeisler leads the team with a .328 batting average and 23 runs scored. Chris Gnos is pacing the team with 39 RBI and Sean Carrington leads the squad with seven home runs. On the mound, James Doyle and Jayse Bannister have been the Hawks' best pitchers. Doyle leads the team with a 3.25 era and Bannister in innings pitched (66.2).
 
Next series
PLNU will close out its 2016 regular season with a four-game series against Fresno Pacific on Monday and Tuesday, May 9-10. Senior Day will be Tuesday, May 10 and the ceremony will occur between the games.
