SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma Athletic Department inducted its 10th class into its Hall of Fame on Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Liberty Station Conference Center.
Â
PLNU opened its doors to induct student-athletes Tori Anderson Hester, Sam Cyr, Tabitha Henken Murray, Tiffany Kracy, Andrew Lasker,
Colleen Planeta and Kristin Strimple Bathke. Susan Ganz was also inducted for meritorious service.
Â
The ceremony featured a fantastic lunch along with a word from PLNU president Bob Brower before having the opportunity to hear the words of each inductee and their presenter. The ceremony was closed by a wonderful speech from former Athletic Director Carroll Land.
Â
Here is a look at each of the member of the 2018 PLNU Hall of Fame class:
Tori Anderson Hester: The most decorated track & field student-athlete in Point Loma women's track & field history, Tori Anderson captured eight All-American honors in her career, including four during her senior season. She ran for the Sea Lions from 2008-11 and left Point Loma ranked in the top 10 in six different categories. Anderson was part of the five fastest relay teams in school history, and still sits atop the 4x400m relay list with a time of 3:45.12. Her success also transferred to the national stage. She finished second in the high jump, fifth in the heptathlon and sixth in the 400m hurdles as a senior. In addition, Anderson was also a standout in the classroom, collecting four NAIA Scholar Athlete honors.
Â
Sam Cyr: The most successful golfer in Point Loma history, Cyr brought national attention to Point Loma with his outstanding play over all four seasons (2006-09). He won back-to-back NAIA National Championships as a junior and senior to cap off a four-year All-American career. He set the NAIA record for lowest single-round score when he fired a 12-under 60 at the Grand Canyon Fall Invitational. It was not all just individual success for Cyr at PLNU. He also helped lead the Sea Lions to three different top 10 finishes at the national tournament, including a school-record fifth place finish in 2006. Upon leaving Point Loma, Cyr owned each of the top 3 spots for single-season stroke average.
Â
Tabitha Henken Murray: A force on the volleyball court for four seasons, Tabitha Henken played for the Sea Lions from 2008-11 and graduated Point Loma as the school's all-time leader in kills (2120), nearly 175 ahead of second place. She was a three-time All-American, including twice being named to the first team. Henken paced the NAIA with 5.2 kills per set as a junior, which included registering 37 kills in a match. That mark is still the second-most kills in a single match in school history. In addition, Henken helped lead the Sea Lions into the NAIA tournament in all four seasons, resulting in fifth place finishes in both 2008 and 2010.
Â
Tiffany Kracy: The owner of nearly every Point Loma women's soccer goalkeeper record, Tiffany Kracy was a mainstay for the Sea Lions in net and on the All-American teams from 2009-12. She earned NAIA All-American honors in each of her four seasons and was named Top Defender at the 2009 NAIA Tournament. Kracy graduated PLNU ranked first all-time in career saves (305), career shutouts (49) and games played (85). The Sea Lions also experienced some of their greatest seasons while Kracy was in goal. The team captured the 2011 GSAC Championship and finished third in the national tournament that year. However, that was only their second-best finish with Kracy. PLNU placed second at the national tournament during Kracy's freshman season.
Â
Andrew Lasker: Lasker owns one of the most impactful and impressive two-year runs in Point Loma men's basketball history as he was named an All-American in both seasons. He joined the team in 2002-03 and made an immediate impact. Lasker helped lead the team into the postseason after pacing PLNU in rebounding and steals, and finishing second in points and assists. His 66 steals that season still rank him sixth all-time. The next year, Lasker would average 17.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.Â
Colleen Planeta: Three-time All-American,
Colleen Planeta put together one of the most impressive and decorated careers in Point Loma women's basketball history (2006-10). She was named the 2009-10 GSAC Player of the Year and ranks second all-time at PLNU with 2,014 points. She is also sixth all-time in rebounds and first in field goal percentage (.550). Planeta's school-record 433 career blocks are nearly 200 more than second place. In addition, she became the first women's basketball student-athlete to record a triple-double when she posted 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks against Westmont. The Sea Lions went 106-23 (.822 winning percentage) with Planeta on the roster and made the national tournament in all four seasons. Â
Â
Kristin Strimple Bathke: Four-time NAIA first team All-American, Kristin Strimple had one of the most successful careers on the court of any student-athlete in Point Loma women's tennis history (2008-11). She set the school record with 100 career singles wins and a .870 winning percentage. She is one of just two PLNU student-athletes to ever top 30 wins in a season. Strimple also excelled in doubles. She ranks third in career wins (88) and wins in a season (25). She was named team MVP in all four seasons and was a three-time NAIA Scholar Athlete.
Â
Susan Ganz: As the lone meritorious service selection in the 2018 hall of fame class, longtime Athletic Trainer Susan Ganz has poured her heart into the students and student-athletes at Point Loma over the past 21 years. She has worked with nearly every program and served as a professor in Kinesiology, while helping develop the university's sports medicine program. The impact she has made on hundreds of student-athlete lives cannot be measured. The sidelines of a sporting event at PLNU will never quite look the same without the smile of Susan Ganz.
Â
With the addition of these eight new members the PLNU Hall of Fame, which began in 1982, has swelled to 156 members, including student-athletes, teams and meritorious service selections.
