WEEKEND PREVIEW VS. HOLY NAMES

This week
The Point Loma baseball team will face Holy Names this weekend as they start PacWest Conference play. The teams will play four-game series that starts with a doubleheader on Friday at 11 a.m., and will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday also starting at 11 a.m. All games will be played at Carroll B. Land Stadium located on the campus of PLNU.

A look at the Sea Lions
The Sea Lions come into the weekend having won five of their last eight games and are now one game below .500 (6-7). PLNU will begin PacWest play this weekend as they host Holy Names. With four wins this weekend PLNU could jump to one of the top three spots in the PacWest standing.  

Travis Takata is currently leading the team in batting average, hitting .381. Takata is followed by Baxter Halligan (.310) and Izayah Alvarez (.300). The Sea Lions currently have four players with multiple home runs on the season, that list includes Travis Takata, Otto Kemp, Brett O'Toole, and James Halpin.

The PLNU pitching staff ranks second in the PacWest in earned run average sitting at 3.98. The staff is led by starting pitcher Zack Noll who currently owns a 2-1 record with a 3.26 ERA and has struck out 25 batters in 19.1 innings pitched. Steven Elliott has also been a big asset to the pitching staff throwing 9.2 innings in relief with a 0.93 ERA.

A look at Holy Names
Holy Names is 9-12 and 0-4 in PacWest play this season. They come into this weekend have dropped eight of their last nine games and currently sit in last in the PacWest Standing. Holy Names opened up PacWest play last weekend against Concordia which ended in them getting swept.

The Hawk offense is led by Joshua Nelson who is currently hitting .383 with eight doubles, two home runs and has driven in 19. Following Nelson is Dominic Masciel who is hitting .341 with four home runs. Robbie McIntosh rounds out the top three Hawk hitters as he is currently hitting .320.

Ian Wadenius leads the HNU pitching staff with a 0.87 ERA in nine appearances out of the bullpen. The bullpen is the strength for Hawks as their top five leaders in ERA are all relievers. Jacob Casson and Ricard Hernandez Jr. head the pitching staff as their top two starters. Both have a 3.19 ERA and have combined to throw 62 innings and have struck out 60 batters.

> Izayah Alvarez currently has a seven game hitting streak coming into the weekend.
> Baxter Halligan has reached base in six of the last seven games.
> When PLNU is tied or leading the game after six inning they are 6-1.
> The Sea Lions have rolled out eight different lineups this season.

Following the series, the Sea Lions will travel to La Mirada, Calif. to face Biola in a four-game series starting Friday, March 13 at noon.
