[2019-20 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award Recipients]

SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma baseball team was honored with an ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award after posting a 3.506 cumulative team grade point average for the 2019-20 academic year. (Aug. 3)
 
Twenty-six Sea Lions registered GPAs of at least 3.0 this year to earn PacWest All-Academic honors. Senior Travis Takata and freshman Seth Ryberg led the way by posting GPAs of 3.96 and 4.0, respectively. Click here to see the complete ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award release.
 
The PLNU baseball team went 9-8 in the COVID shortened season, including winning four of its final five games.
 
Criteria for the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award include:
> Must be a high school or college team
> Head coach must be a current ABCA member
> Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the 2019-20 academic year (see form for details regarding 2020 academic interruptions). GPA may not be rounded up.

The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Sports Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and Dave Keilitz Ethics in Coaching Award.
