AZUSA, Calif. - If the Point Loma track & field team's goal was to build momentum in their final meet before the PacWest Championships, it did exactly that with many very strong performances on Friday and Saturday at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Anessa Chirgwin led the Sea Lions' efforts with a school-record throw in the discus.

The freshman from Oregon City has burst on the scene in her first season in the Green & Gold with many strong performances, but her throw on Friday gave her a mark that will last in the PLNU record books for years to come. In her very first attempt at the meet, she posted a throw of 147-8 (45.01m) to take over the No. 1 spot on the Sea Lions all-time top 10 list. That mark was 1-7 (0.5m) further than Michelle Bryant's previous school-record throw of 146-1, which had stood since 1999. Chirgwin's throw was 4-5 (1.34m) better than her previous career-high which she did in her last meet.

Rahel Rudel also made movement within the school's all-time top 10 list with a time of 12.24 in the 100m. The senior from Bremen, Germany shaved time off her previous personal record to secure her fourth spot on the list. She ran that time on Friday and qualified for the finals, but opted not to run in the finals on Saturday as this was her first meet back.

Rudel did help the 4x100m relay team, along with Blanca Granados, Avery Avina and Madelynn Worley, post a season-low time of 47.81 in the event. This will be one of the most competitive events in the PacWest Championships as three PacWest teams have already earned NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the event.

Apart from just her work on the relay team, Madelynn Worley was also one of the standouts this week for her work in the 400m. She registered a time of 58.19 on Friday to earn a spot in the finals and then won the finals of the Bryan Clay Invite on Saturday against many other runners from the PacWest by over a half-second with a time of 57.73.

Brianne Camarena improved her eighth-place mark on the Sea Lions' all-time top 10 list in the pole vault by clearing 11-2.25 (3.41m). It was a half-inch better than the freshman's previous best career mark, and it moved her to fifth on the 2021 PacWest performance list.

Blanca Granados had a quality meet. The freshman from Chula Vista posted a time of 25.74 in the 200m which ranks only behind Rudel on the Sea Lions. She also leaped 16-8.75 (5.10m) in the long jump to take over the top spot on the Sea Lion squad.

Additionally, a number of other Sea Lions also set PR's including Kenna True (800m), Gabrielle Martin (1500m), Emily Donahue (1500m), Sarah Pratt (1500m), Molly Kerns (1500m), Madi Bucci (5k), Eva Koutelieris (PV), Peyton Yoshida (PV) and Rachel Struble (LJ).
