Maddie Reeves completed her sensational Sea Lions career with an impressive 5,000 meter performance at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
After earning All-American honors with an
eighth-place finish in the 10,000 meters on Thursday, Reeves placed 18th (16:56.74) in the 5,000 meters on Saturday, moving up three spots from her seed time that had her 21st in the field entering the race.
"Our coaching staff could not be prouder of the legacy she's left for this program," Director of Cross Country and Track & Field
Jake Poyner said. "Her All-American performance in the 10,000 meters was a masterclass in tactical decision-making and then she doubled back a couple days later for the 5,000 meters where she improved upon her seed time."
Assistant Coach
Madi Bucci added: "It was amazing to watch Maddie close out her collegiate career on the national stage this week. Doubling in the 10k and 5k is no small feat, but she embraced the challenge with bravery and tenacity, further cementing her place in PLNU Track & Field history. She has been a joy to coach, and we are so thankful for how she has poured into this team and paved the way for current and future Sea Lions."
Reeves finishes her PLNU career with three track & field program records in the 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters.
She also holds the best Point Loma 6K time in cross country.
"She has personified the notion of
Mentality before Reality in all the ways in which she prepares and performs, and it was special to see things come to fruition for her on her final weekend in a Point Loma singlet," Poyner said. "Maddie's leadership, heart, and competitive grit will be missed, but we are excited to see what the Lord has in store for her in this next chapter."
